The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
