Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior representative said the incident made him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
